675- Purpose in the Daily Grind
Episode Title: Purpose in the Daily Grind
Every generation performs better at work when they see purpose in what they do, but for Gen Z, purpose is imperative. Here’s why, next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 675 show:
Thanks for tuning into The Perna Syndicate today! All week we’ve been talking about the top five things that Gen Z (and really, every other generation) wants at work. To recap, they want robust learning and development, mental health support, financial wellness training, human connection, and—last but not least—purpose.
Gen Z is known for their activism in the causes that matter to them. They combine the hardheaded practicality of their Baby Boomer forebears with the idealism and passion typical of youth.
Thus, they want a job that pays the bills, fits their life, and contributes to the betterment of the world in some way. In other words, they want their work to have purpose that is bigger than just the paycheck.
Like the Millennials, Gen Z has to have a reason behind everything they do. Whether they ask them aloud or not, younger workers want to know: Why do we do it this way? What’s the reason behind this responsibility? Why does my work matter? What’s the purpose?
The ‘why’ is what motivates these young workers—and honestly, workers from all generations—to put forth their best effort. When their employer inspires them with a world-bettering vision for the daily grind, that daily grind becomes a place to excel.
That’s it for The Perna Syndicate this week. Thanks for tuning in! We’ll see you next week for more on careers, education, and the multigenerational workforce. Until then, take care!
