Episode Title: 4 Trust-Builders: Impact Week 2022

At home, at school, and at work, trust is essential. Here’s a fresh look at this high-impact episode from 2022 on The Perna Syndicate, coming up next!

Ep 625 show:

Welcome to today’s episode for Impact Week on The Perna Syndicate! We’re wrapping up 2022 with the most popular topics from this past year. Today’s show is all about trust and how we can build it (or rebuild it) with those around us.

There are four foundational attitudes that make trust possible. First, we have to hope. Believing the best about coworkers, kids, and the future is the only way to make that best a reality.

Second, we have to have an attitude of forgiveness. Dr. Shawn Bishop says we must forgive ourselves and those around us for any mistakes, bad days, and missteps of the past. Letting go of the past allows space for kindness, progress, and even laughter to make its way in.

Third, our attitude should focus on a common good. A great example of this is the calling most educators have in common, to make the world a better place through education. Even if we disagree on how this should be accomplished, we can build trust through our shared motives—and build from there.

Finally, we need to assume positive intent. Most leaders want all the best things for their staff and students. Perhaps at the moment they are just trying to survive. If we can assume that their intentions are positive, we can move forward together.

Maya Angelou once said: ‘Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.’” This is something we can all take that to heart.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these top 5 topics from the past year. Thanks for making The Perna Syndicate a part of your 2022. Take care, Happy New Year, and we’ll see you next year—right back here on The Perna Syndicate.
