The light at the end of the tunnel is a tremendous strategy to motivate young people to higher performance, both at school and work. Find out more, coming up next.

Ep 118 show:

Hello, and welcome—you’re now in The Perna Syndicate! This week, we’ve been talking about the light at the end of the tunnel as a motivational strategy. It works for everyone, old or young. And once we’ve mastered it for ourselves, we can start helping young people find the light that will drive them to push through the tunnel.

For most young people, the light isn’t just the attainment of their education. It’s not just graduating high school or college, or even getting hired at their dream job. For today’s young people, the light is primarily the lifestyle they can enjoy once they reach the end of their tunnel.

Experience is everything, and that means lifestyle is everything. To get students and trainees excited about their career goals, they need to see the bigger picture of what those goals lead to. You can help them discover their personal light by asking questions like:

What will your life look like? What experiences can you have? Will you make enough to travel, see concerts, and have a family? What kind of freedoms will you enjoy? Where can you live?

Once young people can envision the kind of lifestyle they want to enjoy, we can connect that lifestyle with the effort needed today to get through the tunnel. We’re showing them that putting in the work now really does matter for later. Then, it’s up to them.

Your goal is to help students discover their personal Light, whatever that may be. Then, they need to be reminded of the light frequently on their way through the tunnel. Tune in tomorrow for tips on how to blaze that light and make a bigger difference for young people.
