Hello and welcome! I’m your host, Mark Perna. If you know me, you know I love good food, good wine, with good people. And usually, they’re all a big part of my holiday season. But this year, I’m flipping the script.
Instead of indulging, I’m evaluating. Instead of gaining those pounds I work so hard to keep off the rest of the year, I’m shedding them. At the time of recording this, I’ve already lost 27 pounds over the last 30 days. It’s just diet and exercise that are making the difference.
Health and wellness is an area I have always struggled with. At the lowest point of my personal and professional life in 1996, I was at my highest weight—over 400 pounds. I carried it well, but I did carry it. I’ve made many changes since then and have been at a healthier weight for many years. But now, I want to take that even further.
This didn’t come out of nowhere. The pandemic has us all thinking about our physical health. And while that may provide some extra motivation, my real reason is that I want to enjoy many more happy and healthy years with my family.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with enjoying the season and all the delicacies and delights that come with it. For many of us, these familiar treats are a source of comfort and normalcy in a truly difficult time. But if you want to do something different this year, flip the script. Use this time to give yourself the gift of a mentally and physically healthier self.
