Episode Title: Side Hustle Versus Gig

If you work a second job to bring in some extra cash, would you consider it a gig or a side hustle? Let’s talk about the difference, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 807 show:

Welcome back to The Perna Syndicate today—I’m glad you are here! When it comes to ‘side hustle’ versus ‘gig work’, there is one key difference.

Gig work is a ‘necessary’ tool for cash. In other words, the only reason you do gig work is for the money. Side hustles, on the other hand, are passions that aren’t necessarily monetized. They may take time to learn and grow. But gig work always comes with a price tag.

Of course, if something normally considered a gig job aligns with a person’s passion, then it is most certainly a side hustle as well.

While some members of the younger generations turn to side hustles to earn extra cash, TAPFIN exec Jim Love believes it’s more about finding deeper meaning in how they invest their time.

He says that, quote, “this is a generation that is not afraid to use their voice and pursue every opportunity to do work different than their daily, potentially routine tasks. As a fellow side hustler, I find great value in being able to ‘escape’ into a passion at a moment’s notice. Passions matter and young people are eager to seek theirs out. And that’s a positive thing!” End quote.

Whether you’re trying to pick up an extra gig for the cash or a side hustle for the fun of it, doing something outside of the typical 9 to 5 can be extremely beneficial. And if you can find something that checks both boxes of cash and passion, all the better!

Tomorrow on the show: not only are young people not afraid to pursue their passions, they also aren’t afraid to fail. I will see you next time on The Perna Syndicate for more on that!
