Episode Title: Owning the Results
Whenever my company is facing a challenge, my team and I collaborate until we come up with a solution that everyone can own. Here’s why this works, next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 804 show:
This is The Perna Syndicate—so let’s jump in! According to the study by Deloitte Digital that we’ve been looking at this week, Gen Z and their older-generation bosses see the world in very different ways. That shouldn’t surprise us, but it is something we need to address if we want our workplace to run smoothly and productively.
We can start bridging the generational gap by first cultivating curiosity about what makes each generation unique. We can lean into these differences through mentoring relationships, where the teaching and learning go both ways. And, as we’ll discuss today, we can be intentional about creating solutions together.
The Deloitte study notes that more than any other generation, Gen Z wants to have their voices heard. They want agency to create a future that they find meaningful. And that’s why it makes so much sense to enlist their energy and problem-solving skills.
Whenever my company is facing a challenge, I toss it on the table for discussion. I then sit back and listen as the ideas to solve it come rolling in. Of course I came to the discussion with my own thoughts and opinions and solutions, but I like to hold them back until everyone has had a chance to grapple with the issue.
Most of the time, we land on a solution that everyone has contributed to. Because when everyone on the team has a voice in the solution, we can all own the results.
Next time on The Perna Syndicate: How can we see Gen Z’s unique traits as an asset to the future of work? We’ll talk about that and more tomorrow on the show. Take care and we’ll see you then!
