746-Get Out of Their Way

Episode: 746

Episode Name: Get Out of Their Way

There’s a lot of negative stereotypes out there about Gen Z. What do you think about this generation? Here’s my take, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 746 show:
Welcome to a new week on The Perna Syndicate! I’m your host, Mark Perna, and with all the new folks listening in, I want to spend this week covering the basics of Generation Z.

Most people have a pretty poor opinion of our youngest generation. You know all the negative stereotypes: they’re lazy, entitled, disorganized, unmotivated, poor communicators—the list goes on.

Don’t believe it for a minute.

I go completely the opposite way. I think that today’s younger generations are one of the most extraordinary generations to come down the pike, bar none. I think they are the most intelligent, resourceful, and pitbull-like generations we’ve ever seen in this country. Once they see a want-to in their life, something they truly want, they will move heaven and earth to get to that want-to.

Our challenge, as parents, educators, and employers, is getting them to want something. That’s where the battlefield of the future is. Because when they don’t want anything, they tend to stand still in the tunnel. When they don’t want anything, they appear to be lazy and entitled and unmotivated—all those negative things.

But when they see a want-to in their life, we don’t have to push them forward. Our job then is just to get out of their way. This holds true for our Gen Z kids, students, and coworkers.

If this is something that flies in the face of everything you’ve ever heard or experienced with Gen Z, I invite you to tune in this week for the inside scoop on why they do what they do. See you next time on The Perna Syndicate!
