Episode Title: ChatGPT and Employee Engagement

Have you ever wondered if your job will someday be performed by AI? You’re not alone in that thought and here’s why, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 740 show:

Hello and welcome to The Perna Syndicate! One of the hottest issues in the workplace today is the emergence of automation and AI. You know: ChatGPT. Many workers are concerned abou t whether these new technologies might eventually take their jobs. I think we’ve all had that thought.

The recent University of Phoenix study delved into this issue to understand how workers feel about it and what it might mean for employers. It found that over a third of American workers are concerned that advancements in technology, such as AI and automation, may negatively impact their careers.

That’s why it’s important for employers to find ways to use technology in a way that augments human potential. With a little foresight and planning, AI can be leveraged to help workers engage with their work in more fulfilling ways.

John Woods of the University of Phoenix, whom I interviewed for this topic, says that AI is not a replacement for jobs as much as a partner that can help someone do their job more efficiently. For example, we didn’t stop teaching math because someone invented the calculator. Rather, we embraced the calculator and taught students how to use it, and now it’s a tool that helps people do more complicated equations faster.

The bottom line is this: Employers must empower their people with access to new skills, career mentoring, and yes, new technology like ChatGPT. These are the things that will engage and retain top talent in the age of the free-agent workforce.
