Episode Title: What’s Stressing Young Workers Out
Younger generations may be struggling with their mental health more than their older peers. Here’s what employers need to keep in mind, next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 693 show:
You’re now in The Perna Syndicate—welcome! As we know, young people today are highly connected to technology, especially compared to other age groups. As a result, they have the idea that they need to always be online and connected—which leads to increased stress and burnout.
Employees from the younger generations may perceive a higher pressure to perform in the workplace. At the same time, they are likely grappling with financial challenges as well. These often stem from student loan debt, higher housing costs, and lower job security.
They also face other stressors that members of older generations didn’t face when they entered the workforce. These include the current economic downturn, the fallout of the pandemic, and social media peer pressure, to name a few.
With all this, it is easy to see why members of the younger generation might feel inadequate or out of balance in their lives.
This sounds bleak, but it’s actually a fantastic opportunity for employers to step into the breach and show their younger employees that they care. Offering mental health resources, flexible work arrangements, and a positive work culture will help you become an employer of choice—both now and into the future.
Tomorrow: What’s one more way that employers can help address the generation-specific issue of mental health? We’ll tackle that question on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
