Episode Title: Valued For More Than Their Work

To feel appreciated, employees need to know they are valued for more than the work they produce. Here’s how to support that, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 683 show:

Hello and welcome to The Perna Syndicate today! This year’s Employee Appreciation Day was the first Friday in March, but it’s not the type of thing that we should observe for just one day.

As a leader, one of the ways I show my team how much I appreciate them is by encouraging healthy work-life boundaries. In fact, we might as well call it quiet quitting—my team does. And they’re empowered to do it.

Whatever lines they need to draw between work and life, whatever accommodations they need in order to make their personal and professional responsibilities manageable, that’s what we do.

I have to note that sometimes, this isn’t the most convenient arrangement for me. At times, the accommodations my employees need don’t always accommodate my immediate preferences. But I value these team members far too much to place my convenience over their needs.

And it’s mutual. Together we have created a culture where both sides try to go that extra mile to make it easier for the other.

If employees feel secure and supported in setting healthy work-life boundaries, they know they are appreciated for who they are, not just what they can do. It’s just one more reason that employee appreciation isn’t a box to check, but a culture to build.

On tomorrow’s show, just how important is a sense of purpose to the employee experience? Very important, as it turns out. Join me next time for that conversation on The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
