Helping young people find a for-now direction can keep them moving forward. But this strategy isn’t just for them. Here’s why, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 629 show:

You’re now in The Perna Syndicate—welcome! I often talk about the for-now direction for young people picking a career. Often, they’re terrified of making a forever decision—but a for-now direction, they can change that at any time… it’s much less scary.

As we launch the new year, there can be a lot of pressure to set big goals. But not everyone is in a place to do that. And that’s why I believe the for-now direction is a valuable life strategy for everyone, not just students.

The for-now direction frees you up to take small steps toward small goals while you figure out what your ultimate goals are. The idea is that you don’t stand still and get stagnant, that you keep taking steps down the tunnel toward whatever your personal light may be. Even if we’re not 100% sure of where we want to end up, it’s important to keep moving forward.

Maybe you’re at a crossroads and you just don’t know which way to go. Think about what a for-now direction could mean to you—something to give you purpose even if it doesn’t turn out to be your ultimate destination.

There’s a saying that goes, “when you don’t know what to do, do the next right thing.” I find that very helpful when I need a for-now direction. What’s the next right thing for me to do, right now, in this moment?

We have to keep growing, through all the challenges that life throws our way. Very few decisions have to be forever. Some can be just for now—and that’s okay.

Tomorrow: What’s the biggest obstacle holding you back? I’ll share mine on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
