618 - Seen, Heard and Valued

Episode: 618

Episode Title: Seen, Heard and Valued

Leaders have to realize that if people don’t feel seen, heard, and valued, no human connection will be forged. Here’s why not, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 618 show:

You’re now in The Perna Syndicate—welcome! As we talk about human connection in the workplace this week, those of us who are leaders must understand that it’s up to us to set that tone.

I’m fortunate in that I lead a wonderful team of consummate professionals who not only do their work well, but also genuinely enjoy working together. Before we get down to business in our team meetings, we go around and share how we’re doing personally. Every person feels seen, heard, and valued.

And that’s the secret.

In your workplace, whether it’s spread out geographically or all together in the same building, people want to know:

  • Do you see me? (Or is it all too easy to be invisible here?)
  • Do you hear me? (Or has my voice been ignored so long that I don’t even speak up anymore?)
  • And, do I matter? (Or am I just a means of producing work?)

If you’re a leader, you need to be answering these questions in a positive way for your team. When you deliberately choose to build habits of human connection, these behaviors will spill over into the culture. And people will start connecting.

Tomorrow: Is it possible to foster a human connection when working remotely? We’ll tackle that question on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
