Should you go back to school to get your degree and enhance your earning potential? Here’s the big picture, next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 498 show:
You’re now in The Perna Syndicate—so let’s get going! Today I want to talk about going back to school when you’ve been in the workforce for awhile. How do you know if this is the right step for you?
Well first, you have to look at the big picture. If you’re feeling burned out and want a new career, is this a temporary season that will get better, or is the stress a foundational part of your current job?
You also need to think long and hard about how more education would address your specific knowledge gaps and advance your career. It’s not enough to return to school merely hoping for the best; you need a clear goal and plan to reach it.
Returning to school doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing decision. Today there are many choices for people looking to improve their professional life through further education. Yes, you can enroll in a graduate degree program to change career paths entirely—but you can also take a few credential courses in leadership skills to get ready for a new management role or otherwise grow your current skill set.
Finally, you should always look into any tuition assistance programs your current employer may offer. Going back to college is an easier choice if it’s paid for.
Should you go back to college? Look at the big picture to figure out what makes sense for you.
Tomorrow on The Perna Syndicate, we’ll talk about the alternatives to college that might just work for your career goals. Tune in and we’ll see you then!
