Episode Title: Keep Asking Why
Do you find yourself constantly asking “why” for everything? Here’s why that’s a good thing, coming up next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 455 show:
Hello and welcome—this is The Perna Syndicate! We’ve been talking about why the classic response “because I said so” just isn’t good enough anymore when you’re working with young people. Yeah, they ask why a lot—but that’s one of their strengths. It helps them understand the big picture and come up with a way to make it better. They love doing that!
In fact, if you’re a younger-gen person and you find yourself always asking why, I’d urge you to keep asking. It’s one of the things I love about your generation. I know that those of us in older generations may not always respond with perfect patience when you ask this question all the time, but that’s on us. Give us a little grace and we’ll try to do the same!
Actually, we can all learn from how you’re always questioning the status quo. Maybe those of us in older generations have been too content with not rocking the boat, not digging too deeply into the reasons behind everything. Maybe we should start asking why more than we do.
So to all the young people out there, to everyone listening right now: keep questioning. Keep working hard to make the process and result better. Keep putting your unique, special, and important stamp on whatever you touch. Of course, be sensitive to how your questions might be coming across, but don’t stop asking.
Asking why, and then putting that information to good use, is what powers innovation and growth. And I believe that asking why is the secret to making the world a better place.
That’s all for this week on The Perna Syndicate. Thanks for tuning in and making this a part of your day! I’m your host, Mark Perna, and we’ll see you back here next week for more on The Perna Syndicate. Until then, take care!
