Ep 403 show:

This is The Perna Syndicate, and I’m glad you’re here! Things are changing fast in the world of work, and in many areas these changes favor the workforce. Things that used to be perks, like flexibility, remote work, and on-the-job learning, are quickly becoming non-negotiables.

On the employer side, there’s a fresh focus on the employee experience and how to build a fantastic organizational culture. Companies are also learning to think beyond the traditional talent pools, realizing that skilled workers can come from anywhere—literally.

This can be great news for younger-gen workers who are just launching their careers. Instead of a single, linear climb up the corporate ladder, there are now so many different avenues to succeed. Young people can take part in the gig economy, work from a remote location, or choose a role that allows them to develop their skills while they earn. There are tech bootcamps, paid internships, high-level mentorships, and apprenticeship programs on the rise. The options are limitless!

We’ve talked a lot about the career scarring that 2020 graduates experienced in a pandemic-struck economy. Those who entered the workforce in 2021 had brighter prospects, and now our 2022 grads have even more choices to shape their career destiny.

Young people need to take advantage of this moment to think about what they really want out of their work—and the contribution they can make toward a better future. With all its challenges, 2022 is an exciting time to be part of the workforce.

There’s another reason that the worker-driven employment landscape is doing young people a favor. Tune in tomorrow on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate for more on that topic. See you then!
