Episode Title: Doing All the Right Things
Do you ever feel like you’re doing all the right things, but just not seeing the results? I felt that way raising my son. Stay tuned for more, coming up next on the Syndicate.
Ep 166 show:
Welcome to The Perna Syndicate! Have you ever experienced the frustration of doing all the right things—without seeing any results? I’ve felt that way often in my life, both personally and professionally. It’s just part of the human experience. You can put in all the effort in the world, but there’s no guarantee that you’ll get the outcome you want.
If this is you today, I know how you feel. I was a single dad who struggled for YEARS to motivate my son to perform better in school (or even just to show up there in the first place…bonus points if he arrived with his homework intact).
I was an involved parent. I attended all the meetings with the teachers and principal. I set rules and expectations for our home. I kept after him about his homework. I was doing it all right—but it wasn’t having much of an effect on my son. Something inside him had to change before there was going to be any result.
I finally understood that sometimes, it’s not up to me. I’m an extremely goal-driven individual, but there are many things beyond my control. That didn’t let me off the hook from continuing to do all the right things for my son, but it did give me some peace.
If you’re doing all the right things, keep doing them. Re-assess your approach as needed, be sure you’re still on track—but don’t give up. Some goals just take more time than we expected, some things are harder, and sometimes, it’s just not up to us. All we can do is stay the course—and keep doing all the right things.
