Episode Title: Adjust Your Meetings

Are your meetings effective, or are they a secret time-waster eating up your team’s productivity? Let’s talk about the latest research, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 649 show:

You’re now in The Perna Syndicate—and I’m glad you’re tuning in! We’ve all been there—sitting in a tedious meeting that does little to move the team forward on the objective at hand.

In a recent study by Coda, almost half of employees said the biggest problem with the meetings they attend is that too much time is spent on unimportant topics.

What else is wrong with our meetings? 21% feel that the next steps and decisions are unclear, while another 13% lament the lack of resources provided beforehand to make the meeting more productive.

These takeaways are clear: deal with any unimportant matters in private conversations before the meeting, be sure that the meeting is relevant to every person invited, and establish a clear plan for what actions need to be taken (and by whom) as a result.

When and how you schedule meetings is another point of contention. 54% prefer not to have meetings scheduled back to back, while 28% would rather have them all at once to get them done. This is another area to get team input on what scheduling approach works best for everyone.

Meetings are often necessary to move the team forward, but ineffective gatherings can be one of the biggest time-wasters at work today. The good news is, a few small adjustments can make your meetings more productive—and even enjoyable.

On the next episode of The Perna Syndicate, we’ll cover one more area you might not expect where employees could be feeling frustration. Stay tuned, subscribe if you’re not already, and we’ll see you next time on The Perna Syndicate!
