Episode Title: Gen Z Can Recession-Proof Their Career
Are we headed for a recession? And if so, how will that affect the young graduates who will be launching their careers? Let’s talk about it, next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 586 show:
This is The Perna Syndicate and I’m your host, Mark Perna—welcome! According to economists, there’s at least a 50% chance that the economy will fall into recession by the end of the year.
That means that many students will likely graduate into a down economy just like millennials did in 2008, when thousands of young people were entering a workforce that had no jobs for them.
Also called “career scarring,” this setback hurt young people significantly by reducing their lifetime earning potential. Many faced long stretches of unemployment or underemployment, and all of them were discouraged by the experience.
Sadly, these budding young professionals felt the downturn much harder than many of their older and more established counterparts.
While we don’t know how bad a future recession might be (or if it’s even going to happen), it’s still crucial for young people to carefully consider what skills and industries will remain in high demand, regardless of the economy.
There are steps Gen Z can take to recession-proof their careers, but they have to start now.
This week, we’re going to talk about the specific steps Gen Z can take to minimize any potential career scarring they might face. See you tomorrow for more on The Perna Syndicate!
