Episode Title: Your Social Agility is Showing

How can you land on your feet when things change at work? It all depends on how socially agile you are. Let’s talk about this critical skill, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 349 show:

Hello and welcome—you’re now in The Perna Syndicate! This week we’re talking about a rising professional skill that’s becoming known as social agility. This is the ability to learn, adapt, and implement quickly. And it has never been more important than it is now.

So how do you, as an individual contributor, take ownership of your own growth in this area? First check out what professional development resources your employer offers. Even if it’s not in-house, companies will often provide access to third-party offerings that can further your professional journey.

But if your company doesn’t do much in the way of supporting employee growth, you’ll need to take things into your own hands. The key here is making social agility a priority for your career. Time spent on personal and professional growth is never wasted, even though there may not be an immediate, visible return on investment.

Find a mentor, and mentor someone else. Read a book or listen to an audiobook. Take a course; attend a conference; join a community of people online who are seeking the same growth. We have so many resources at our fingertips to learn about literally anything.

And of course, remember that growth takes time. Even after you’ve expanded your knowledge, it will take time to filter all that new information through the grid of your experience. Learning something is just the first step. Putting it into action is the next one.

Things are changing fast. Your social agility is showing—so make sure it shows you in your best light.

Tomorrow, what is the opposite of social agility? We’ll talk about it on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
