Episode Title: You’re Being Watched
Whether you know it or not, you have tremendous influence on the young people who observe your life. Here’s why, coming up next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 292 show:
Hello and welcome—you are now in The Perna Syndicate! Are you aware that you’re being watched? That’s right. If you’re a parent, educator, employer, or community leader, Generation Z is watching everything you do. Why? Because if you’re asking them to do something, you need to be doing it yourself.
They may not even realize how much they’re watching. I know we probably don’t. But it’s true. We are models in so many areas: how we act, how we listen, the way that we treat others, our approach to solving problems, how (and if) we ask for help, how we deal with frustration, apologize, and many other areas.
The way that we handle the seemingly mundane things in life can be the fine line between success and struggle. Daily habits of working hard, caring for others, and simply practicing what we preach can have a huge impact on someone else…even when we don’t see it.
Generation Z is watching to see if we walk the walk. They place great value on someone or something being authentic. So what are young people picking up from you? Are you living up to the standards you expect of them?
It can be so easy sometimes to see all the ways that other people fall short, without ever taking a moment to evaluate our own areas for improvement. Both self-awareness and self-evaluation are crucial skills for personal growth.
Make no mistake about it: you’re being watched. And while no one is perfect, it’s good to be aware of the influence we have with the up-and-coming generation. Let’s walk the walk—and let them see it.
Tomorrow: what’s the fastest way to get disconnected from the young people you’re hoping to influence? We’ll talk about that and more on tomorrow’s episode of The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
